La Grande Année is an intense, rich, and complex wine with majestic density, each vintage bringing its own unique signature. Its incomparable texture and depth of aromas make it the ideal partner for fine dining. Produced only when a harvest achieves perfect balance, this cuvée embodies the artistry mastered by the men and women of the House, enhancing an exceptional vintage. The 2018 vintage is an exceptional year that has produced a lively and generous wine, characterized by its elegance and finesse, with a rich bouquet of ripe fruit and floral notes, followed by a long, smooth finish.
La Grande Année 2018 is a blend of 19 crus, mainly from Verzenay, Aÿ, and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ for the 66% Pinot Noir, and Chouilly and Cuis for the 34% Chardonnay. Fermentation takes place entirely in oak barrels and maturation occurs under cork, with aging in the cellar lasting more than twice as long as required by the appellation rules. The dosage is moderate at 6 grams per liter. Golden yellow in colour, the nose bursts with fresh citrus and Granny Smith apple, enhanced by notes of orchard fruits: white peach, apricot, and mirabelle plum. When aerated, fresh almond comes through amid aromas of breadcrumbs and acacia honey. A structured and balanced palate, complex citrus peel notes emerge, then revealing notes of stewed fruit and quince. The texture gradually mellows, offering a creamy effervescence, which pairs perfectly with fish, meat, cheese, and fruit.
The house of Champagne Bollinger was founded in 1829 in the village of Aÿ in the heart the Champagne region. Still family-owned, Champagne Bollinger is famous for its use of Pinot Noir, reserve magnums and oak ageing techniques, the Bollinger wines are defined as much by the vines and the terroir as they are by the art of their blending and vinification. Sustainability and organic principles are key to the House’s philosophy, with Bollinger the first Champagne House to be awarded the Haute Valeur Environmentale certification.
