Lebanon is one of the world’s oldest wine-producing nations, with a tradition of viticulture stretching back more than 6,000 years. The Bekaa Valley — sitting at around 1,000 metres above sea level and further south than any part of Spain or Italy — provides conditions of remarkable natural quality: intense sunshine, dramatic diurnal temperature variation, and ancient calcareous soils that give the wines a distinctive freshness and minerality. A relatively small number of producers work here, but the quality and ambition on show is considerable. These are wines of genuine character, shaped by a unique convergence of Old World tradition, French winemaking influence, and a terroir unlike anywhere else on earth.
