REFINE SEARCH:
France is the country against which all others are measured. From the chalky slopes of Champagne to the sun-scorched garrigue of the Languedoc, from the ancient limestone hillsides of Burgundy to the grand estates of Bordeaux, no other country encompasses such breadth of terroir, tradition and ambition within its borders. Alsace, the Loire, the Rhône, Provence — each is a world unto itself, with its own grape varieties, climate and philosophy of what wine should be.
It is easy to romanticise: rows of emerald vines under blue skies, ancient cellars and the quiet certainty of centuries of knowledge. But the reality is often harsher — late frosts that devastate a crop overnight, rain at harvest, the grinding anxiety of a difficult vintage. Nowhere more than France do climate, terroir and winemaker combine to produce such varying and sometimes extraordinary results. It is this tension between nature and human endeavour that makes French wine endlessly compelling — and why it forms the heart of our collection.
