Understanding one’s roots, taking care of the earth, preserving tradition as a key to understanding the future. This is the philosophy that Contesa has always applied. Located in Collecorvino amongst the hills northwest of Pescara, this is recognised as one of the best vineyard zones in Abruzzo and Rocco Pasetti’s is deeply conscious of this precious gift bestowed by nature to his family, as they act as dedicated guardians to these fertile lands.
Siting at around 250m altitude, these south-facing slopes of clay-chalk soils are ideal for the cultivation of Montepulciano, with Pecorino grown on the lower slopes, they practise the philosophy that ‘wine is made in the vineyard’. Combining traditional methods, with innovations in technology, the estate involves the next generation and their contemporary labels are the first indication of the modern style of wine-making employed. These are impeccably made wines expressing Abruzzo’s local grapes, yet demonstrate substance, balance and elegance.
