Woodchester Valley was established by the Shiner family in 2007 when a single acre was planted on their Amberley site to assess the suitability of the land for growing vines. Their first vintage, a crisp dry Bacchus was produced from the 2010 harvest. This was followed by a further planting in 2011, with the Woodchester site planted in 2012 (20 acres), and Doverow in 2013 (another 20 acres). Their winery was established in 2016, with the 2016 vintage being the first year wine was produced on site. The cool climate of the Cotswold meant that in 2021 harvest started on 26th September and didn’t finish until 2nd November. Holding their nerve, they would always rather pick grapes at phenolic ripeness over yield, and this shows in the quality of their wines.
