Moke’s Notes:

Boutinot 2021 Cuvée Jean-Paul Rouge IGP, France £8.25

One sip of this and you can imagine yourself in a relaxed French bistro awaiting a dish of Coq au Vin. Made from grapes classified as IGP Méditerranée but in the department of Vaucluse, this shares similar characteristics to neighbouring famous villages; however, part of this wines joy is its inherent uncomplicated nature – southern Rhône varieties fill the glass with ample red fruit, underlying spice and hint of herbal freshness. Deliciously drinkable solo or with food.

Boutinot 2021 Ordinal Languedoc White, France £9.50

An equal balance of Piquepoul Blanc and Roussanne (who’d have thought it?!) with the freshness of the Piquepoul Blanc wonderfully balanced by the waxy complexity of Roussanne. The wine spends 6 months ageing on fine lees, producing a wine with natural intensity and texture. It might not be your normal reach for varietal combination, but it’s certainly worth trying.

Boutinot Percheron Chenin Blanc Viognier South Africa £8.50

The 30+ year old trellised Chenin Blanc makes up three quarters of the blend, with 15 year old Viognier complimenting the remaining quarter. Whilst this blend might not be a classic combination, boy does it work! This energetic wine offers minerality, bright white fleshy stone fruit and the whiff of apricot aromatics. Vibrant acidity and delicious fruit balance brilliantly to create a wine fantastic with a huge array of dishes and equally quaffable on its own.

Boutinot 2021 The Myth of Motu Nui Sauvignon Blanc, Chile £9.50

If the Polynesian style label doesn’t give you the hint of the tropical fruit aromatics captured within the bottle, one sniff of this Sauvignon Blanc will confirm it! Bright, crisp and textural, the fruit practically sings out of the glass: perfect for new world Sauvignon lovers!

2021 Diez Siglos de Verdejo, Spain £9.95

Sourced from re-grafted old bush vines planted on gravel soils, this approachable Verdejo offers intense aromas of stone fruit, tangerine oil and citrus notes. A rounded and complex palate, with peach and apricot fruit and notes of grass and fennel. With a textured mouthfeel, the pure bright fruit lingers on the finish.

Emiliana Adobe Reserva Chardonnay Emiliana, Chile £9.95

This bright, clean Chardonnay offers a veritable feast of fruit flavours: rich tropical pineapple are complimented with vibrant citrus grapefruit and lime notes. The mouthfeel is the perfect balance of viscosity and freshness with the focus firmly being the purity of the organic fruit. This never disappoints!

Montressor Bio 2021 Custoza Bio, Italy £9.95

For lovers of Pinot Grigio, an alternative Italian white to try. Custoza is a blend of local varieties Garganega, Friulano, Cortese (known here as Bianca Fernanda) and Trebbiano Toscano. Organically produced on the hillside slopes of Lake Garda, there are delicate orchard fruit aromatics with bright citrus notes and ripe yellow apple flavours on the palate. Clean, fresh and juicy, this is fantastically food friendly and absolute worthy of exploration.
