White under £10

2020 Vinho Verde, Casa de Vila Nova, Portugal – £9.50

A super lively example of how delicious Vinho Verde can be! Casa de Vila Nova is located in the sub region of Sousa, the Vinho Verde Demarcated Region, in the North of Portugal. The Vinho Verde vineyards are exposed to the Atlantic Ocean winds and influence. Soils, microclimate, grape varieties and the unique characteristics of the wine culture, distinguish it from all other wine regions of the world. Floral, citrus and gentle tropical aromas lead on to a palate which is deliciously off dry with flavours of ripe melon and sherbet lemon acidity. The finish is refreshing with a classic spritz.

2020 Diez Siglos de Verdejo, Diez Siglos, Rueda, Spain – £9.95

Sourced from re-grafted old bush vines, planted on gravel soils, this approachable Verdejo offers intense aromas of stone fruit, tangerine oil and citrus. A rounded and complex palate, with peach and apricot fruit and notes of grass and fennel. Textural, though bright and pure with a long finish.

2021 Adobe Reserva Chardonnay, Emiliana, Casablanca Valley, Chile – £9.95 (Organic)

Clear, bright pale yellow in colour, with refreshing citrus aromas of grapefruit and lime that intermingle with subtle tropical fruit aromas, especially pineapple, and a touch of herbs. The palate is balanced, fresh and fruity.  It’s a really super Chardonnay that consistently delights.

2021 Silver Myn Sauvignon Blanc, ZoRGvliet, Stellenbosch, South Africa – £8.95

Produced from the boutique winery in Banghoek on the Helshoogte Pass between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek comes this super Sauvignon Blanc. Light yellow in colour with hints of lime green, the nose shows wonderful aromas of greener tropical fruit such as melon, kiwi and fig. This character is true to the Banghoek terroir – lots of gooseberry zip, linear, crisp and racy. This is a mouth filling wine with firm acidity leading to a multi-layered complex palate showing distinct mineral and fig flavours on the finish. An absolute classic from this 100% Bordelaise estate!

Rosé under £10

2020 Pasquiers Rosé, Pays d’Oc, Boutinot, Languedoc, France – £8.50

Pale pink and easy to drink, this luscious, textural blend offers tangy red berries flavours provided by Grenache with spice from Cinsault. Dry and fresh, drink with friends and ideally, sunshine.

2020 Pinot Noir Rosé, Pays d’Oc, Lieux Perdus, Languedoc, France – £9.75

This delicate rosé is made using the classic rosé de presse method combined with the expertise of white wine vinification; Pinot Noir grapes are gently pressed to extract the colour without tannin and cool vinified to capture all the delicate aromatics and flavours. To maintain freshness the wine is then bottled under screwcap, producing a light, dry, pretty pink which is packed full of creamy red fruit flavours.

Red under £10

2017 Aliança Dão, Aliança Vinhos de Portugal, Dao, Portugal – £9.50

Grown in the Dao region, south of the Douro Valley, where old vines are tended traditionally in granite soil, this offers surprising depth and concentration at this price point. Flavours of plum, black fruit, mocha and dark chocolate are layered amongst supple tannins and the finish is long and juicy.

2020 Viña Borgia Borsao Organic Garnacha, Bodegas Borsao, Camp de Borja, Spain – £9.00 (Organic)

Garnacha is sourced from organically cultivated vineyards, and vines of average age 10-30 years. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Vibrant aromas of redcurrant and bramble fruit, with appealing leafy notes. The palate has fresh, ripe red berry fruit, bright acidity and supple tannins.

2020 Percheron Shiraz Mourvèdre, Western Cape, South Africa – £8.50

Sourced from traditional growers in the Swartland area of the Cape. The soil is mainly Malmsbury shale with loamy soil on the higher grounds and sandy loam lower down the slopes, interspersed with rich Hutton soils. Co-fermented Shiraz and Viognier do their thing whilst waiting for the later Mourvèdre to create this threesome. The sandy nose suggests summer pudding, black cherries and crushed raspberries with notes of aromatic spice and a latent creaminess. Ripe and juicy on the palate which is at once vibrant and dark. The result is a rich, dark wine, packed with fruit and chocolatey notes and a big savoury heart.

2020 Adobe Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon, Emiliana Central Valley, Chile – £9.95 (Organic)

Fresh and fruity aromas of blackberry, spicy and a hint of smokiness, the palate is concentrated and smooth with vibrant plum, red fruit and a delicate herbal note. Part of this wine was aged in oak barrels for 6 months and later reblended to achieve a more complex character, leaving silky tannins and a medium bodied structure that is easy to drink.
