d’Soumah Chardonnay is picked as early as possible to retain the refreshing citrus fruit and crisp natural acidity on the palate. Structure is developed predominately by barrel fermentation having allowed the juice to mature for eight months on lees prior to bottling. The result is this contemporary Chardonnay that balances old world restraint and pure Australian joy! Balanced weight and a silky texture, this Yarra Valley Chardonnay is one you don’t want to miss!

Behind the bottle: Soumah of the Yarra Valley

A hidden gem located down a country lane, in the dress circle of the cool Warramate foothills of Gruyere. Soumah set out to make single varietal wines with the provenance of the Yarra Valley. Situated an average of 120 metres above sea level, the vineyard is elevated above the valley floor. The ancient sandy-clay loams with broken sandstone shape the small yield and define the detail in these precise, focussed expressions of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Practising ‘lutte raisonnée’ or supervised control as they like to call it, the focus is on reducing the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides which degrade the soil and make vines weaker.
