Knock Knock Shiraz

2020 Barossa Valley, Australia, 75cl

Smalltown Vineyards Knock Knock Shiraz

Shiraz sourced from the finest available vineyard sites across the premium Northern Barossa Valley, coming from 5 different growers. It spends 22 months, aged in a variety of French and American oak barrels of different ages and sizes. The wine offers dense sweet blackberry fruits on the nose, with a lovely savoury almost meaty character with hints of black pepper and oak. Bright, juicy and fresh on the palate, with ripe black cherry and plum flavours on the palate. The long oak aging has allowed for wonderful integration, allowing the fruit to take centre stage. Long and rich with good acidity, and toasty oak on the finish. This is drinking well now, but beneath the ripe fruit is such a good structure, it will age really well for a decade. This is an blockbuster Barossa Shiraz with great depth and character at a brilliant price!

Behind the bottle: Smalltown Vineyards

Tom White has been making wine since 2002, making wine for his family’s winery in the Adelaide Hills. Tom then established his own contract winemaking business in 2008 and made wine all over South Australia in the Clare Valley, McLaren Vale, Riverland and, of course, the Barossa Valley where Tom finally put down some roots. In 2012 Tom purchased a vineyard in Marananga, a small town nestled in the heart of the Barossa between Seppeltsfield, Greenock and Stonewell making the wine at Rolf Binder the Winery before Tom’s own winery The Curator Wine Company began operating in 2020.

Meanwhile, in 2020 Rolf Binder sold the Rolf Binder the Winery and took 18 months off. Joining forces once again with Tom White in 2022 to produce The Smalltown Vineyards range. Rolf’s sister Christa is also involved in the project and together, the collaboration produces a range of brilliant wines, from some great old vineyards.
