Simpsons Wine Estate

Gravel Castle Chardonnay

2021 Kent, England, 75cl

A bright, vibrant cool-climate unoaked Chardonnay from our very own shores! Produced from Burgundy clones and cultivated near Canterbury, Kent, this is the perfect for pairing with shellfish in place of Chablis. Hugely impressive mouth-watering minerality dominates with citrus aromas and a generous mouthfeel. It’s little wonder that it’s picking up medals left, right and centre!

Behind the bottle: Simpsons Wine Estate

Having produced award-winning wines at their Languedoc estate Domaine de Sainte Rose, husband and wife team Charles and Ruth Simpson have turned their attention back to England. Having located a glorious position on the sunny, sheltered slopes of the North Downs of Kent, in 2012 they established Simpsons’ bringing their expertise and savoir-faire back to the UK, with an aspiration to produce world class English wines. The site is protected from the whimsy of the English climate by ancient woodland and the vines are are anchored in the iconic chalky soils so highly revered for producing high quality wines. With varieties and rootstock have been meticulously matched to their soils, it is their belief that the finest wines convey a rich sense of provenance and integrity: you will only find Simpsons’ grapes in Simpsons’ wines – nothing bought in, no method outsourced.

Located in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), they now have 30 hectares of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay planted. With a state-of-the-art winery just minutes from the vines, their still and sparkling wines are increasingly sought after as some of the finest of their kind. We wholeheartedly recommend you support this GDP – Great Domestic Product!
