Rosé de Noirs

2017 West Sussex, England, 75cl

Roebuck Estates Rosé de Noirs

Produced from Pinot Noir (79%), Pinot Meunier (19%) and Pinot Précoce (2%) – which is an earlier ripening, smaller mutation of Pinot Noir by way of Spätburgunder – the hue is a delicate shade of pink with a fine, persistent mousse. Expressive floral aromatics and wild-red berry fruit soar out of the glass. These flavours follow on the palate interwoven with ripe black-berry fruits and an underlying creaminess from the 36 months on lees. Wonderfully balanced and elegant, this is a brilliant example of fantastic English Sparkling Rosé!

Behind the bottle: Roebuck Estates

Roebuck ‘Home’ vineyard is close to the village of Tillington to the West of Petworth in Sussex, where the the three classic Champagne varietals were orignally planted in 2006. They have an additional four vineyards all chosen for their unique aspects and soils, ensuring they produce exceptional fruit with the capability for complexity and elegance.

Roebuck were one of the founding members of the Sustainable Wines of Great Britain (SWGB) certification scheme. Their experienced team work tirelessly to ensure they meet these exacting standards and they work hard to maximise their conservation of the land and encourage biodiversity. They employ natural lawnmowers (a flock of Sussex sheep) to graze in between the rows during the winter, whilst state-of-the-art technology to assesses and anyalyse what is happening at each site on a daily basis, ensuring a targeted approach to managing their vines. They employ the traditional Champagne method of production. All grapes are hand-harvested, whole bunch pressed and fermented in a mix of stainless steel and French oak, prior to a minimum of 36 months on lees which imparts incredible richness and complexity into their wines. Each wine is totally individual and already their award cabinet is full! This a Producer to watch for the future: their quality and interest is only going to keep on improving!
