Tempranillo grown in the heart of the Ribera region, pick from a number sites near Fuentecén, from which all the vines are at least 15 year old, producing yields of less than 5,500 kilos per hectare. The concentrated Tinta del Pais (Tempranillo), shows expressive cassis, redcurrant and warm spice on the nose, with a ripe palate of forest fruits, toasty oak and lick of acidity to balance. The wine spends 7 months in new oak (40% American/ 60% French) which balances the intensity of the fruit and doesn’t overwhelm the palate. Delicious and expressive without being too heavy.
Rippa Dorii is the Ribera del Duero project from the Ontañón Family (of Rioja). The grapes are chosen from a number of sites near Fuentecén, in the heart of the Ribera region, here, altitudes reach over 900 metres and the climate is harsh, with irregular rain, uncertain frosts and short and extremely hot summers. Sounds brutal but the vines love it and respond with producing concentrated fruit. Produced solely from Tinta del Pais (Tempranillo), they employ rational and measured viticulture with absolute respect for tradition and knowledge of the land, ensuring continued respect for the winemakers, the wine and the soil from which it produced.
