Rippa Dorii Crianza

Rippa Dorii

Crianza (Magnum)

2020 Ribera del Duero, Spain, 150cl

Rippa Dorii Crianza

Produced from Tinta del Pais (Tempranillo) from selected plots from numerous vineyards of the Páramo de Fuetecén, over 900 meters high in the heart of the Ribera del Duero of Burgos, with a combination of stony soils, clay rich soils and white limestone. The grapes for the Crianza are from vines at least 25 years old which due to their age, produce less than 5,000 kilos per hectare. The wine spends 12 months in new barrels (70% French oak/30% American) with different levels of toasting. The nose is full of intense dark berry fruit: blackberries, blueberries, dark plum with vanilla and nutmeg interwoven amongst a hint of minerality. The intensity of the nose follows on the palate with deep dark fruit filling the mouth with silky tannins and an overwhelming sense of elegance. This is really exciting example of Ribera del Duero in all its glory.

Behind the bottle: Rippa Dorii

Domaine Michel Girard comprises of 12 hectares of vineyards, made up of 30 parcels of vines with an average age of 15 years. Terroir plays a key role at this estate. Michel, Philippe and Benoît Girard’s vines are planted on each of Sancerre’s three different soil types: Terres Blanches (clay and limestone), Caillottes (chalky limestone) and Silex (flint). The brothers favour judicious blending of the separately-vinified cuvées to create wines with real complexity and balance.
