A beautifully elegant nose which is immediately inviting. There’s a delicious creamy mouthfeel with toasty brioche notes. Complex and refined, this is a brilliant example of how great English Chardonnay can be. The current release is predominately from the 2019 vintage and lees aged for two years. Ripe green apple, conference pear and honeydew melon are key fruit characteristics with trademark nuttiness and a delicious white grapefruit acidity to balance.

Behind the bottle: Langham Wine Estate

Trophy winners for Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year at the IWSC 2020, Langham Wine Estate are truly worthy recipients of such an accolade. Located to the east of Dorchester in Dorset, whilst the wider Langham Agricultural Estate covers 1,000 hectares, owner Justin Langham dedicated 12 hectares to planting out vineyards in 2009 with the aim of being a commercial enterprise. Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay are planted on south-facing shallow clay loam and flint, over deep Cretaceous chalk soil. At 85 metres above sea level, it is protected from prevailing weather by a band of mature woodland. The sponge-like structure of chalk provides good drainage during episodes of heavy rain, but acts as a reservoir of water for the vine roots during dry periods.

Employing a low-intervention approach to grape growing and wine production, the wines are not fined or filtered meaning they are vegan friendly, Langham Wine Estate are constantly working to minimise their environmental impact to produce honest, terroir driven wines. The wines are fermented in a mixture old barriques (3-25 years old) from a range of regions and stainless-steel vats and left to rest on the spent yeast lees over the winter months. The wines are then bottled in early summer without being filtered and with minimal sulphur dioxide.
