FINE & EVERYDAY WINE
2015 Rhône, France, 75cl
François planted his first vines in 1989, he became a full-time vigneron in 1991 and built his own winery in 1997. He’s a self-taught winemaker (though with a close friend to Yves Cuilleron) and his domaine has gradually grown to more than 40 ha. L’appel des Sereines offers a lighter style of Northern Rhône Syrah, made from younger vines that allows a fresher style. Well balanced and with good fruit and weight, this is an absolute treat to enjoy now with Roast Lamb.

Growing up in Marlborough, David Clouston spent his youth in the Wairau and Awatere river valleys, where his family have farmed for five generations. Energetic and talented, his experience – hard-earned over 25 vintages worldwide – is the driving force behind Two Rivers. After immersing himself in the sights, flavours and aromas of countries as diverse as the USA, Chile, Spain, France and Corsica, Dave’s desire to create inspiring wine on the home turf was realised and Two Rivers wines were born.
Their mission is to harness Marlborough’s intense fruit flavours, while producing elegant wines with purity and a sense of place. Grapes are grown primarily in high density on the clay soils of Brookby Hill Vineyard in the Southern Valleys sub region of Marlborough which together with several key sites across Marlborough’s two main valleys, Wairau Valley and Awatere Valley, create the wines of ‘Two Rivers’. After embarking on BioGro NZ organic conversion in 2020, no synthetic chemical fertilisers, pesticides or herbicides are used at Brookby Hill Vineyard. Winemaking techniques include natural fermentation, aging in concrete egg tanks, large oak cuves, an assortment of French oak barrels and clay amphoras, as well as bottling wine unfined and unfiltered to retain complexity and texture.
