Owned by siblings Louis and Marie Fabre who were early pioneers of organic viticulture in the Languedoc, Château Coulon sits on a hill near the village of Cruscades close to the Via Aquitania, a Roman road which links the Mediterranean to the Atlantic. The vineyard extends over smooth, rounded pebbles deposited by the river Orbieu and refreshing winds assist in the organic management of the estate. Its wines are concentrated, with notes of black fruit and liquorice. A concentrated and savoury red from the deep south of France. This Corbières shows intriguing savoury and herbal aromas of bitters and thyme. The palate is full of morello cherry fruit and carries through savoury flavours to the finish. A delightful red that constantly punches well above its price point and is one of our best new finds!

Behind the bottle: Famille Fabre

The Fabre Family have been producing wine in one way or another for over four hundred years. In 1711, the family settled in Gasparets, near Narbonne, in the Aude department of France. Louis Fabre is head of the family concern, which now includes five estates, having taken the reins in 1982. From 2014 he has been joined by a new generation, his daughters and niece: Clémence, Paule and Jeanne, respectively in charge of export sales, accounting and oenotourism. Since 1991, Famille Fabre has been converted to organic viticulture and today 100% of its vineyards are certified organic, producing concentrated, flavoursome wines with genuine provenance.
