Domaine Désiré Petit Crémant du Jura Brut

Domaine Désiré Petit

Crémant du Jura Brut

Jura, France, 75cl

Domaine Désiré Petit Crémant du Jura Brut

This is a serious and elegant Crémant du Jura, made using the ‘methode traditionelle’, entirely from Chardonnay purposely grown on poor soils to maintain good acidity in the wine. Bottling is generally carried out during the January to March following harvest, after which the wine spends 12 to 15 months on its lees before disgorgement and dosage of 0.6cl per litre. On the nose it is creamy; on the palate well balanced with good depth and classic Champagne-esque toasted brioche flavours and creamy notes evident again, giving this complex wine an appealing softness.

Behind the bottle: Domaine Désiré Petit

The domaine was established in 1932 by Désiré Petit who planted just under 1.5 hectares of vines on the Côte de Feule. Since then, the vineyard area has increased significantly to 27 hectares and the domaine is run by the third generation of the Petit family: Damien and Anne-Laure. Farming the vineyards is conducted in a sustainable fashion based on tillage, weeding certain vines in order to mimic erosion and control production. Careful observation of the vines, their shoot and leaf growth, and their grapes over a fixed period allows for a substantial reduction of chemical treatments and results in far less soil compaction. The vineyard achieved organic certification by ECOCERT in 2022.
