The cooperative winery of Faugères was created in 1959 by a few wine growers who, at that time, had already imagined a cooperative dedicated to the production of high quality wines, however Mas Olivier was officially born in 1982 with new classification of Faugères’ AOP. Today Faugères cooperative winery takes up a new challenge as it owns more than 55% of Faugères label production, and after years of hard work and investment, these wines are now recognized as one of great quality and character. The vineyards face the Mediterranean sea but are located at 300 metres altitude, benefitting from the high temperatures and long summers, with heavier rain and cooler temperatures than anywhere else in the Languedoc during spring and autumn (this fueling the soil). The vineyards are planted on sandstone schist stemming from the crushing of clays in the primary era. Those soils are very filtering, allowing heavy rains to drain off and keep a little dampness. The schist stores up the heat during the day and release it at night, thus favouring the ripening of grapes and giving the wines their roundness and subtlety as well as mineral, floral and fruity notes. With a philosophy of lutte raisonnée, and where possible adherence to organic principles, this compelling Languedoc winery offers wines that are generous, with plentiful ripe fruit, value and character.
