Our Latest Crush: Montresor Bio, Verona

Montressor Bio is a project from one of Verona’s historic houses, founded by Giacomo Montresor in 1892, with a reputation for high quality and affordable Valpolicella and Amarone. In recent years, the range has grown steadily with vineyards being developed in Friuli and northern Veneto, around Conegliano. In 2021 Montresor launched its new organic project, a range of ‘Montresor Bio’ wines. Some of its wines are already bottled in a lighter weight glass bottle (less than 420g) to reduce carbon dioxide emissions during transport, with the added benefit of reducing the amount of glass to be manufactured. Solar panels are being installed at the winery to provide some of the electricity required in the production process; plus, a water purification system to recover and recycle the water used at the winery.
We love this entire range. Each wine shows enormous personality, demonstrating brilliant varietal character or the beauty of the blend. Organically produced, with fantastic sustainable credentials, these wines are exceptional value for money and extremely easy to enjoy!

2021 Custoza Bio

A blend of local varieties Garganega, Friulano, Cortese (known here as Bianca Fernanda) and Trebbiano Toscano. The vines are organically cultivated on hillside slopes to the south-east of Lake Garda. Delicate aromas of orchard fruit and spring flowers. The savoury palate has ripe golden apple, apricot and tangy citrus characters, alongside a bright, saline acidity.

2020 Lugana Bio

The Turbiana (or Trebbiano di Lugana, or Verdicchio) grapes are sourced from vineyard between Sirmione and the resort town of Peschiera del Garda (at the southern tip of Lake Garda), in the tiny region of Lugana – this straddles the border between Lombardy and Veneto. Fragrant aromas of white flower, tropical fruit and wild crushed herbs. The palate is bright and delicate, with gently honeyed notes and characters of honeydew melon, peach and grapefruit. Fresh, zesty acidity and subtle almond hints on the finish.

2021 Bardolino Chiaretto Rosé Bio

The Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes are softly pressed, with only a few hours of skin contact to give the delicate rosé colour. Aromas of redcurrant and citrus with lightly savoury notes. The palate is fresh and zesty with berry and pomegranate fruit balanced by crisp acidity and an appetizingly dry, sour cherry finish. A really delicious rosé to enjoy in the sunshine.

2020 Bardolino Bio

Fragrant aromas of wild strawberry with floral, herbal notes. The palate has bramble fruits and supple tannins, juicy acidity and a touch of white pepper. Produced from the traditional Bardolino grapes of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara, from organically cultivated vineyards on the eastern shores of Lake Garda.

2020 Corvina Bio

A really juicy expression of Corvina. Vibrant aromas of red berry fruits, with floral notes and hints of tangerine zest. The palate has fresh redcurrant and cherry characters, bright acidity and light, supple tannins. Light to medium bodied, this is a great alternative to Pinot Noir.
